Last Friday my dearest friend, Jesus Jugs was kind enough to host a give away for one of my State prints. I would have given you a heads up but my GM diet had me loopy and I got my days a little mix-matched! Silly me. 
What is a State Print? I'm so glad you asked. 
Here are some examples. I can do the state in any color of your choice, (according to the color chart on my Etsy Shop that is) With a heart in your preferred city.

I can do a the state, again in any color with all of its bordering counties on the side and the heart in your county.

These are perfect for Home Decor as Christmas gifts for that someone who just seems to have everything, or for yourself! The photo below is of the print I gave Jesus Jugs for her Birthday last year, lovingly hung up on prime wall real estate in her living room!

As for my diet. It finished up on Sunday and I lost 8 lbs in total! Yay me. My Jeans now fit again and I can finally go shopping confidently for that tiny little New Years Dress!

Honey, I'm Home!

As an interior designer, I love paying close attention to character's homes in movies. Some of my favorites include Cameron Diaz's and Kate Winslet's houses in "The Holiday," Diane Keaton's home in "Something's Gotta Give," and of course, Meryl Streep's house in "It's Complicated." I even wrote a blog post about them. I've recently found a new tinsel town home that I am absolutely in love with! It's Leslie Mann's and Jason Bateman's mini mcmansion from "The Change Up."

When I saw the previews for this movie, I thought it could either be really stupid or pretty funny and I am happy to say that I thought it was the latter.

The house used in the movie is actually in Atlanta, Georgia but the interior was shot in a studio. I love this southern, traditional home.

The colorings used in this home are so pretty. Dark wood floors and stair rails against the white moldings and millwork are just my style!

See? The pale yellow wallpaper is so homey and inviting.

There was a ton of texture and patterns used for the styling of this house. I even like the green and blue striped stair runner. Also, notice the picture collage around the antique clock. So cool.

How cute is that chocolate toile print chair? 

I even like the blue and yellow china on the shelves in the background. Adding lots of rugs is another way to make wood floors cozy.

The family room looks pretty cluttered and "lived" in but I still love it!

This is my dream dining room! I always tend to lean towards those kind of chair when I am in furniture stores. The sideboard is great too.

Loving the shabby chic hutch. Even the highchairs are pretty freaking sweet!

The kitchen is a little different. I do love the green backsplash tile but if it were my house I think I would have done a different color. 

The floral curtains are pretty cute, but again, I just don't think this room matches the rest of the house. Don't get me wrong though. I die for this kitchen!

And all its white cabinet glory!

I hope my dream home has an eat-in kitchen area too. So fun!

The nursery is print overload but I still like it. I think the floral wallpaper with the zoo animal boarder is so sweet.

This is one of my favorite rooms in the house. The small tile from the millwork to the ceiling is so chic.

And the backlit mirrors are gorgeous and convenient.

Man. That shower is just asking for me to get in it.

 

I. Freaking. Adore. This. Bedding. It's simple and pretty. I like that it's feminine but still kind of geometric and not really girly. And I really like the sheets paired with it.

I like the curtains too! I could go without the wallpaper in this room though. I think just a nice soft buttercream would be nice. Or even a cool teal.

Shoot, I actually don't care. I would move into that bedroom in a second.

 

Especially with that window seat. Where can I find a house like this in OC? I need to know!

Oh Pinterest!

My favorite boards to look at on Pinterest are the "do it yourself" posts. Here are some of my favorites as of late.

Create a moving coffee and storage area table with crates found from Michaels or Hobby Lobby.

Create a Vase by cutting a wine bottle. You're probably thinking to yourself. "You can't cut a wine bottle you dumbass!" Supposedly you can. 

Soak a string in nail polish remover. 

Wrap string around bottle.

Light string on fire, over sink while rotating the bottle.

And that's it! I'm interested to try it.

Stain a world map on to 2x4's. This would be awesome to have on a living room wall. Or a game room! So cool.

Make lights that glow patterns by wrapping a doily around a light bulb and spray paint. Some how I don't think this will turn out as well as the picture, but it would be so cool to have those lights in the back yard.

Take caulk from the hardware store and run lines down the back of your rug to keep it from moving/slipping on hard surfaces.

Drill holes in your fence and stick marbles in to create beautiful lights when the sun hits. I would love to try this!

Lustrous Lighting

Lighting is one of the most important factor in interior design. It can change the whole look and feel of a room. I am a sucker for chandeliers. When I own a house it will be full of them! I'm not kidding. The nice thing is there are so many different kinds and styles, there are endless possibilities to choose from. I have put together some pictures of chandeliers I found across the webverse that I liked or thought were interesting and then I categorized them by design style. Scroll through and enjoy!

Traditional

Definition: Each detail is a focus of refinement, rich materials abound and every appointment is a testament to a tradition of collected treasures passed down from generations past. It is important that the balance of contrast between rich color or detail and the quality of light or subtle shades of color to create a timeless tapestry to delight the senses without seeming old or stale.

Contemporary
Definition: Contemporary design utilizes simple, clean lines and an uncluttered look. Decorators sometimes apply the terms contemporary design and modern design synonymously. The styles are similar, but contemporary design features softer lines and is more inviting. Contemporary design extends to exterior and interior applications.

Modern

Definition: Modern design is uncluttered, streamlined, sleek and open. Modern style has its roots in the Bauhaus school with its emphasis on angular lines and lack of ornamentation. Equally influential was Scandinavian style, which stresses minimalism, mass production, and simple functional forms.

Eclectic

Definition: Eclectic design is usually perceived as a free and easy, vibrant and unrestrained style.  It is not a random jumble of thrift store finds and hand-me-downs but a thoughtfully gathered collection of interesting pieces that work together in scale and proportion – and sometimes are found at thrift stores and family garages.

I can't decide if I'm more on the eclectic side or the contemporary. They're all beautiful in their own way. Happy Saturday Diary Readers!
