Mary

To My Mama on Mother's Day,

My Mother is the epitome of the word. When I was growing up she made sure that my brother and I had the perfect childhood. And we did. She was a June Cleaver type, except with an edge. Dinner was on the table at 6:00- Always. She would take me shopping for cute new clothes for no reason, and then yell at my principal when he called to tell her I was dressed inappropriately.

To get me out of bed in the mornings for school she would sing the "Time to get up song," a creative rendition of a song I was taught in pre-school, and to this very day the words still haunt me. But I am actually looking forward to the day that I can torment my children with it.

She made sure that my (inappropriate) clothes were ironed, my hair was done pretty and even through my first year of college helped me write wrote my essays. Shhh! don't tell.

She has been there for me through boyfriends and break ups, good new and bad, new jobs and career paths. I can always count on her to have a solution when I have a problem, even if it's just figuring out what I should make for dinner.

She doesn't care what people think and isn't afraid to be goofy. She is the reason that I am as strong and independent as I am. She taught me to speak what is on my mind, and I do! And to not take crap from others. She told me that I should never throw the first punch, but I should always throw the second. I've taken this to heart!

It's funny, a couple months ago, I was in the car with my little brother and a car swerved out of it's lane, almost crashing into the car ahead of me and making me swerve a bit too. Rather than yelling some crazy obscenity, all I got out was "Crimany! Crazy woman driver!" My brother looked at me like I had gone senile. That is exactly something my Mama would say.

(Three generations)

I also realized that I sit at the dinner table like she does with my feet tucked neatly under my bottom.

I have the strange habit of constantly rubbing my feet together like she does when I am on the couch. It's comforting.

We both refuse to buy store-bought pie crust.

We share the same love for the color pink.

We both have apple cheeks and fine hair.

And we both think John Hamm and Bradley Cooper are sexy.

The older I get, the more I realize that I truly am becoming my mother. Which, in my book is a pretty remarkable person to be.

Thanks for letting me borrow the best parts of you, Mom. I love you.

Little hopes and tiny dreams

My old ASB Teacher used to tell us: "Shoot for the moon and you will land on a star." Totally lame. I used to do the teenage eye roll every time he said it. But now that I'm older, I kind of like this cheesy little line, it's actually kind of cute.

This post is going to be about the things that I wish or would really like to be able to do. Am I going to shoot for the moon with all of these? Probably not, but hopefully I'll land on a couple stars anyways.

1. I would LOVE to be able to sing. Or even just play an instrument. One day hopefully I will learn. Its bands like the Civil Wars that make it seem so cool and easy. I wish I could be that cool. Um, plus the male singer is smoking hot! Johnny Depp's twin for sure.

2. I would really like to be a guest at a soiree like one Gatsby would have thrown at his large estate in the Hamptons. Beaded flapper dress, Champagne and the Charleston? Yes Please!

And how fabulous is this already put together ensemble I plan on wearing from Miss Baloo

3. It would be so romantic to have a love epiphany and figure out the one I was supposed to be with,  then run to him like in the movies with this song playing. Of course he would love me as well and we would make-out furiously as the song was ending....

4. I would like to have sex with Don Draper. This needs no explanation.

5. I think it would be nice to sleep in, pretend that it's the weekend, snuggle, and of course make banana pancakes. This could happen on any given day, but it never or rarely does.

6. I would like to produce this: .... By this I mean a sweet little girl. - not anytime soon though!

7. I would like to be recognized for my work in a magazine like Better Homes and Gardens. OR Coastal Living. Definitely Coastal Living.

8. Another movie scene. I wish I could drive in the rain and feel a sense of calm and contentness and have this beautiful song come on. Songs never come on when they're supposed to. Doesn't it sound like a rainy day song?

9. I would like to know how to dance. Well. Not hip hop. Real dancing (sorry), like Swing dancing and 'Western' and Salsa and Waltz. Man that would be fun!

10. I would die to have mermaid hair that looked like this:

11. I wish I had a gay best friend or relative (I'm not picky) like Cam from Modern Family. He is totally  my favorite character on the show.

12. I wouldn't mind driving around in one of these little cuties.

13. And lastly, I obviously need a place to park my new car... What better place than an adorable little cottage, maybe one that looks like this. With a little yard for Rox.

So there you have it. Just a few strange little hopes and dreams that I wish will happen in the nearish future of my lifetime!

Goldie Locks

All my life I've wanted beautiful 'Mermaid hair' You know what I mean, long and flowy and able to hold fun braids and seashells. Something similar to this would be perfect!

But I can't. I have what I like to call "toddler hair." It's not unworkable or anything, but it's very fine. I can hold a ponytail using one of those tiny rubber-bands made for little braids, and if I tried, I could get it all to hold with one bobby pin! I can grow my hair out but it has to be done at all times and I am mortified that my ears will stick out, I hate when that happens! One day I will be brave enough to grow my hair out super long and put sea shells in it! In the mean time here are some photos of beautiful hair that I dream of having!

How adorable is this braid? I love the hair ribbon.

How beautiful is this for a wedding? I would wear my hair like this everyday if I could.

Who the hell does this child think she is with such beautiful hair?! So not fair.

This might be overdoing it a little but at this point I'll take anything!

This modern day version of Heidi is so cute!

And how fun is this headband?!

PhotobucketHope all you Diary Readers have a fabulous Tuesday!
