Whimsy & Magic

Disney has always been a huge part of my life. I watched Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty on VHS so often when I was little that the tape actually got those streaky white lines in it. For my 18th Birthday my mom gave me Sleeping Beauty on DVD and I think I cried. Ever since I can remember I have (and still do) wanted to be a Disney Princess. I actually have been a few times for Halloween... I just counted it out now. I've been Belle, Ariel, Princess Jasmine, Wendy Darling and Alice. One year I'd like to be Tinkerbelle.

Anyways. I was doing some blog reading today and came across these awesome photographs of new ads that Disney has made featuring celebrities posing as Disney Characters. They are stunning to say the least. Disney you did it again! Take a look at some of this whimsical eye candy.

Beyonce Knowles, Lyle Lovett and Oliver Platt as Alice in Wonderland.

Zach Efron and Vanessa Hudgens as the Prince and Aurora in Sleeping Beauty.

David Beckham is Prince Stefan in Sleeping Beauty

Russell Brand channels Capitan Hook

Jack Black, Will Ferrell and Jason Segel as the ghosts from The Haunted Mansion.

Alec Baldwin joins Olivia Wilde as the Evil Queen from Snow White.

Penelope Cruz and Jeff Bridges appear as Beauty and the Beast.

Queen Latifah as Ursula.

I love this one. This is Julianne Moore playing Ariel while Michael Phelps is the Merman in the foreground.

Giselle Bundchen, Tina Fey and Mikhail Baryshnikov Play Wendy, Tinkerbelle and Peter.

Rachel Weisz portrays Snow White.

Orlando Bloom is King Arthur.

Jessica Biel is Pocahontas.

My absolute favorite is Scarlet Johansson as Cinderella.

Annie Leibovitz is the photographer for these beautiful pictures. If you would like to learn more about them or check out some behind the scenes photos in making them, go to THIS website.

Happy Friday Diary Readers, have a fabulous holiday weekend!

LaLa Land

Two, dos, (2) weekends in a row I went to Los Angeles. Both times were for a very good reason, but if you live in Orange County, LA is a place that is tried to be avoided at all costs. Seriously. Going a couple times a year is enough for me....

So now my quota is filled till January.

I just dislike everything about it. As soon as you pass Disneyland and get out of the perfectly manicured green foliage, the freeway begins to narrow. Traffic starts to congest and graffiti and homeless people seem to be the usual scenery. Plus I swear there is a faint smell of urine that is locked between the asphalt and the smog. And I have to disagree with Gwen Stefani and her Orange County Girl song. I think what's behind the "Orange Curtain" is just that bad.

Clearly, I'm not a fan.

Anyways, lets get off why I don't like the city of Angels and talk about the cool things I got to do the last couple of weeks!

First, We went with Jesus Jugs and her Ginger hubs to our friends 24th Birthday Party at Tokyo Delves. If you've never been there, the only way I can describe it is it's a Sushi restaurant, club and shit show all rolled into one. Despite the fact that it smelled like a roller rink. (You know that smell where you can't decide if it smells like stinky feet or just ass?) And the sushi was below par, we had a fabulous time! At one point Wes was rapping to Vanilla Ice and I did N'Sync's "Bye, bye, bye" dance while on a chair in heels. I gots skillz y'all. Oh and did I mention they had gallon kegs of beer and every so often our waiter would make us do a saki bomb? Well they do and he did.

Here are some pics.

I got this from the Tokyo Delves website. This wasn't us but they looked like they were having so much fun I felt obligated to put it up.

This was our crowd. Sushi restaurant or Club? That is the question.

The Birthday girl herself!

Wes and I did not get one good picture the whole night. I just put this one up because my sock bun looks cute.

Then this last weekend we went to LA again to see Wes's friend perform at the H2O Festival.

Let me just begin the story by saying that the festival started at 3:00 pm Saturday afternoon. It takes about an hour to get to downtown from where we live in orange county. I was thinking that we would have the morning and part of the afternoon to be lazy and enjoy the day, but Wes was ADAMANT about leaving the house at one. I took my time getting ready with him eagerly badgering me and telling me how much he hate's to be late. We left at 1:30 and he whined the whole way there. We got to the festival at 2:30. Plenty of time. We got in the line at the gate and literally stood there in the hot sun in 90 degree heat for an hour. They ended up not opening the gates until 3:30. Lets just say I was a good sport about the whole thing and Wes felt bad. Now the next time we go to an event we will get there on my time. Sometimes fashionably late is in fact better. Boys are stupid. I've said my peace.

Back to the festival. Wes's friend's band in Connecticut won a contest to be able to perform at this festival. Pretty darn cool. We got V.I.P tickets because we knew the guys which was pretty awesome. What I did not know was that this band is a Latin American Band. Funny because the only hispanic person is the lead singer. The rest are super nice and really cool white nerdy guys. I liked them right away.

So the Band is called Santa Mamba

The dude in the center is Wes's friend Nick. Apparently Connecticut  only breeds men with long hair.

The Festival was fun! We were the only white blonde people in the whole vicinity though. I should have guessed with Santa Mamba being a Latin band that the rest of the festival would be as well. Yup. It was chola central. No offense to any sassy senoritas out there. I've just never seen that many sharpie eyebrows in one place before. It was fascinating.

I was really glad that we had V.I.P because while most of the crowd had to deal with the disgustingly hot weather and pay for overly priced beer and fair food, we got to enjoy an air-conditioned tent with free booze and mediocre food. But it was free mediocre food! Also, while everyone else had to use a port a potty we got to use airplane style port a pottys. SO much better! Santa Mamba didn't perform until later and we didn't know most of the bands playing, so we stayed in our little tent like happy campers and took advantage... Or at least I took advantage of the free alcohol. Wes is a saint for putting up with my "I'm so sexy dirty terrible dancing." I just can't help myself, the alcohol brings out the sex kitten in me.

Some other performers there were:

I'm not sure who she is. But she was very pretty when I saw he on stage.

I don't know these guys either. Couldn't tell you if they were good or not.

I did see him perform a little. Coincidentally he is dating Christine "Chrissy" Teigen. A now super model who went to high school with me and she sat next to me in Algebra. I remember when she dropped out of school to move to LA and become a model. We all thought she was stupid. She showed us. She's living a celebrity life in NY, and I am a waitress. A pretty happy waitress though!

Moving on.

Gym Class Heroes were supposed to be there but they were a no show. However, Snoop Dogg/Lion was!

D - O double G!

Santa Mamba was set to go on stage at 7:30, right after Snoopy. The way the place was set up was there was a large stage and then right next to it a smaller stage. we were right in the middle of both so we got to watch snoop on the big stage and then when he was done we turned our heads and Santa Mamba was on the smaller one. They were really good.

Here's a video I found of their most popular song if you're interested.

After they performed we got to go back stage with them and who did we run in to? Wait for it.

Oh yes. Snoop Dogg's diamond encrusted hand is on my shoulder and Wes made it into the background too! I love that the security guard looks sketched out by him. I had to make the photo black and white because the red eye in it was so bad I looked like a Twilight character.

So there you have it my friends. Two weeks of interesting yet really awesome weekends in LA. Hopefully the next time I have to go there again will be next year ;)

Happy Hump Day!

Oh Pinterest!

My favorite boards to look at on Pinterest are the "do it yourself" posts. Here are some of my favorites as of late.

Create a moving coffee and storage area table with crates found from Michaels or Hobby Lobby.

Create a Vase by cutting a wine bottle. You're probably thinking to yourself. "You can't cut a wine bottle you dumbass!" Supposedly you can.
Soak a string in nail polish remover.
Wrap string around bottle.
Light string on fire, over sink while rotating the bottle.
And that's it! I'm interested to try it.

Stain a world map on to 2x4's. This would be awesome to have on a living room wall. Or a game room! So cool.

Make lights that glow patterns by wrapping a doily around a light bulb and spray paint. Some how I don't think this will turn out as well as the picture, but it would be so cool to have those lights in the back yard.

Take caulk from the hardware store and run lines down the back of your rug to keep it from moving/slipping on hard surfaces.

Drill holes in your fence and stick marbles in to create beautiful lights when the sun hits. I would love to try this!

When I try these ideas myself, I'll let you know how they turn out. Happy Friday!

Me and Betsey Johnson, BFFs Part 2

That's right. Me and Betsey. We're Besties. Honest! I started writing about how I got my internship with Betsey Johnson and even gave you a sneak peek of not only my little NY apartment, but Betsey's as well! Didn't see that post? Don't fret. I have it right here! I wrote the last post before she filed chapter 11 bankruptcy. I couldn't believe when I heard!

This is me in front of the Seattle, Betsey store. Sadly since the bankruptcy it was put out of business.

Anywhoodle, today I am going to talk about her office and what it was that I did for her.

Betsey Johnson Corporate is located in the fashion district of New York on 36th and 7th. I was so excited to start my first day and at first look of the office, I was not disappointed! Here's a little tour.

This is what the elevators opened up to. Thinking back on it now I can remember how that whole floor smelled. It was like eucalyptus and menthol. Probably because Betsey doused herself in eucalyptus and was always sucking on menthol throat drops. True story.

That little window was for the receptionist. And behind that silver door was the mail room and the break room. The pics on the wall are of her and her granddaughter, Layla.

 Waiting area.

Coming through the waiting area, you entered her showroom. Also the Intern's hang out.

These are racks of a few season's collections. They were what magazine editors and celebrities, or their stylists would flip through when they wanted to borrow clothes for fashion shoots or events. I got to meet Lily Allen. See Exhibit A for what she picked out.

Exhibit A
Left: Silk Bow Dress. Right: Sequined black party dress

I love Lily Allen! This song was even my Myspace page song for a while. Way back when!

Alright. Back on track.

This was the left side of the show room

Betsey had painted girl murals on the wall.

This is the conference room. Also, The intern's sewing room. I sewed a few things in here for fashion shows.

This is Betsey's office. Small, but she was never really in it anyways.

So what did I do there?

Everything.

I sewed buttons on sweaters

Dyed fabrics experimentally

Put glitter on sun glasses

Went to Macy's to buy Betsey's make-up. She favors Chanel's red lipstick.

Picked up coffee from the coffee shop around the corner. What was her order? I still remember it. Nonfat chai tea latte with two equals.

I made dinner reservations

Called private schools for 5 hours straight to get her granddaughter in to kindergarten 2 years in advance.

picked up lunch

searched her apartment for lost medications

made fabric and trim runs

delivered dresses to photo shoots. I've seen the inside of COSMO'S office!

packaged 500 invitations for the fashion show

shmoozed made a ninny of myself with Tori Spelling and LL Cool J

Helped with model fittings

Came up with dress line names. Jesus Jugs actually helped me out with that too (over the phone that is)

Photoshopped

Worked sample sales

And I decorated!

Like really decorated. Give me $500.00 to Party City and this is what I can do.

Me and Betsey's dog Lucy pre- Halloween party. I carved that pumpkin. It was supposed to be Marilyn Monroe's Face. You can see it right? Kind of?

The party theme was Rock Star. Me and another Intern, Sara were Salt and Peppa. But literally we were Salt and Peppa. Haha!

This is Betsey's Daughter Lulu with her daughter, Layla and Betsey's Dog, Lucy.

This is me and Betsey. She was Amy Winehouse. Freaking awesome.

I also decorated for Christmas, but This is the only photo I have to show for it.

Me and Lucy in her winter suit.

I interned for Betsey from August until December. I was the longest running intern so I made sure to take seniority over the others. I mean, it was my right to do so. They loved me.

Me and Betsey on my last day.

It was tradition for an intern's last day to throw a little party for them after work. The office puts together a little goody bag full of Betsey stuff and they give you flowers. It's nice.

This was me and Brandon, He was the main evening wear designer and head of all the interns. Under me of course.

Here I am saying "Peace Out Betsey Johnson!"

My last day also happened to be Betsey Johnson's Holiday Party.

Here we are again saying a final Good bye.

Living in New York was one of the funnest times of my short lived life. Now that you've seen what I did with Betsey. Stay tuned for next time when I show you more fun times I had with some of my still very good friends, The Webster Girls!
